In the months and year ahead, Turning Points for Children will strive to meet a variety of goals in order to maintain the excellence of our programs. Two of these goals and an explanation of the challenges that may hinder their completion are listed below:

Goal:

Getting all of our staff under one roof to encourage solidarity, ensure better communication, better utilize technology and increase efficiency.

Currently, Turning Points for Children is operating in two locations in Philadelphia: the formerly CASPA site at 1315 Walnut Street and the formerly PSSC site at 415 S. 15th Street.  While the two locations are within several blocks of each other, it is felt that having one centralized location would make more sense for the sake of solidarity, better communications and improved IT.  Our 1315 Walnut Street office is the smaller of the two and the lease for that location will terminate in August.  Therefore, a decision must be made in the very near future.  Among several options, the best option, at present, seems to be rehabbing the space at 415-419 S. 15th Street, thereby accommodating more than double the 2008 employee count. This will certainly present its share of resource and logistic challenges.

Goal:

Supplement the endowment, as its value and the income from the endowment are lower across the board due to recent merger costs, and overall market conditions.

In this uncertain economic environment, the entire country is feeling the strain.  While Turning Points for Children does not rely on its endowment as its main source of funding, having a strong endowment is an important income stream for general operating expense, and is considered a “safety net” for any non profit organization.  Therefore, it is important to seek out additional funding through government and foundation grants and gifts from individuals/ family foundations, etc. in order to restore the endowment to its former annual income capacity.
